Scholarships available through the New Zealand College of Chiropractic

The New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association and the College have collaborated to establish this scholarship scheme. Together, our objective is to address the challenges faced by aspiring chiropractors from a variety of backgrounds. With substantial financial support and structured mentorship, the goal of the scheme is to ensure that the chiropractic profession reflects the diverse cultures and communities within New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Irene Gold Scholarship

Description: The Irene Gold Chiropractic Scholarship, jointly supported by the New Zealand College of Chiropractic (NZCC) and the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association (NZCC), aims to assist a chiropractic student who has notably contributed to their community and who is experiencing financial challenges. This scholarship seeks to empower future community leaders, particularly those who are experiencing financial hardship, to become chiropractors and make a significant contribution to their communities and the chiropractic profession.

Source of Funding: The New Zealand College of Chiropractic (NZCC) and the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association (NZCA)

Benefits: The scholarship provides the following benefits:

  • A living cost stipend of $10,000

  • Ongoing individual mentorship and guidance throughout the scholarship year.

Tenure: The scholarship is awarded for one year.

Selection Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A new or current student of the NZCC
    Demonstrates evidence of financial hardship
    Exhibits a history of community involvement with a commitment to continuing to serve their community and the chiropractic profession following graduation as a chiropractor
    Demonstration of leadership in their school or community
    Highly values mentorship and personal and professional growth
    Displays academic merit
    Be eligible to enrol as a student at NZCC
    Shows a strong motivation to train as a chiropractor

The application deadline is November 30th of each year.

Application Details: To apply for this scholarship, candidates are required to submit the following documents: ·

  • A completed scholarship application form (below)
  • An NZCC enrolment form to assess eligibility for enrolment
  • A recommendation letter from a community representative.

The application deadline is February 28th each year.

Selection Process: The scholarship selection process will be overseen by the NZCC Scholarship Committee following a review and assessment of the scholarship application and the applicants’ qualifications and suitability. After completing their review, the Scholarship Committee will present recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) for final approval.

Awarding of Scholarship: Notification of the outcome of the application, whether successful or not, will be conveyed to applicants by March 15th of each year. It is important to note that the final decision may be provisional and contingent upon the successful completion of other academic courses. Applicants who have been offered a scholarship must accept their offer by the date prescribed in the letter of award, otherwise the scholarship offer will be forfeited.

Scholarship Payments: Two equal stipend payments will be made following continued eligibility assessment. Payments will be made 2 weeks after the acceptance of the scholarship award and 2 weeks following the semester start date for semester 2.

Dean Carter Chiropractic Scholarship

Description: The Dean Carter Chiropractic Scholarship, jointly supported by the New Zealand College of Chiropractic (NZCC) and the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association (NZCA), aims to foster diversity in the field of chiropractic by supporting promising students of Māori descent who wish to pursue a chiropractic education. This scholarship seeks to empower Māori students, particularly those who may not have otherwise considered a career in chiropractic due to financial hardship, to become chiropractors who can make significant contributions to their communities and the chiropractic profession.

Source of Funding: The New Zealand College of Chiropractic (NZCC) and the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association (NZCA)

Benefits: The scholarship provides the following benefits:

  • An annual living cost stipend of $10,000.
  • Ongoing individual mentorship and guidance throughout the student’s tenure at NZCC.

Tenure: The scholarship is awarded for a maximum of five (5) years to cover the duration of the recipient’s chiropractic education at NZCC.

Selection Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A new student to the NZCC or a student returning after a prolonged absence
  • Be of Māori descent
  • Demonstrate evidence of financial hardship
  • Exhibits a history of community involvement with a commitment to continuing to serve their community, particularly Māori communities, and the chiropractic profession following graduation as a chiropractor
  • Demonstration of cultural leadership in their school or community
  • Highly values mentorship and personal and professional growth
  • Displays academic merit
  • Be eligible to enrol as a new student at NZCC
  • Shows a strong motivation to train as a chiropractor

Richie Barnett Chiropractic Scholarship

Description: The Richie Barnett Chiropractic Scholarship, jointly supported by the New Zealand College of Chiropractic (NZCC) and the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association (NZCA), aims to foster diversity in the field of chiropractic by supporting promising Pasifika students who wish to pursue a chiropractic education. This scholarship seeks to empower Pasifika students, particularly those who may not have otherwise considered a career in chiropractic due to financial hardship, to become chiropractors who can make significant contributions to their communities and the chiropractic profession.

Funded by: The New Zealand College of Chiropractic (NZCC) and the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association (NZCA)
